ATTENTION STUDENTS and PARENTS:
STUDENTS: This summer, in order to keep you actively involved in reading, you will be required to read two books. For your convenience, we have attached a list of suggested titles, which are both grade and age appropriate. If you wish to check the lexile of a particular title, please go to http://www.lexile.com/ or www.lexile.com/findabook for up-to-date lexile information. You should choose one book from the attached listing and an additional book from one of the following websites:

We’ve also attached a post reading activity to be completed after you have read each book. Please complete the activities and turn them in to your Language Arts teacher no later than Friday, September 16, 2011. You will receive a reading assessment grade upon completion of each assignment.
PARENTS: Reading with or to your child (ren) over the summer will help keep their reading skills alive and prevent the loss of necessary reading skills. Research shows that children who do not read during the summer may lose a month or more of the reading progress they made during the school year.
As always we encourage you to preview and discuss your child’s selection of books prior to him or her making their final decision. In this way, you will ensure they have selected materials which are age appropriate as far as difficulty and or content.
