What Can You Do?

The responses to the survey provide important information for planning and monitoring improvement activities. This survey, conducted only once a year, provides parents with a unique opportunity to be heard. This year’s survey deadline is

What?

The Florida Department of Education is conducting a survey designed to provide the state with information on how well schools are supporting parents’ involvement in their child’s education. Under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), states must report this information to the federal government on an annual basis.

When?

February 1 through July 1, 2010

Who?

To assist schools in fulfilling this responsibility, the Florida Department of Education Office of School Transporation has developed the brochure, “Are We There Yet? Staying Safe Between Home and School.” This brochure offers tips to parents, guardians, and students on how to stay safe.

The District automated phone message system will call each parent or guardian and inform them of this brochure and how to access the link, via the District homepage, title “For Parents: Are We There Yet? Staying Safe Between Home and School.” The brochure can also be viewed by visiting http://www.palmbeach.k12.fl.us/cms/TipsForParents.html. The parents who do not have computer access will be informed to call teh school to request this information.

  • Stay informed. The CDC website will be updated regularly as information becomes available.
  • Influenza is thought to spread mainly person-to-person through coughing or sneezing of infected people.
  • Take everyday actions to stay healthy.
    • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
    • Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hands cleaners are also effective.
    • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that way.
    • Stay home if you get sick. CDC recommends that you stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.
  • Follow public health advice regarding school closures, avoiding crowds and other social distancing measures.
  • Find healthy ways to deal with stress and anxiety.
  • Call 1-800-CDC-INFO for more information.
